Twhirl is a twitter tool built on the Adobe Air platform. I just downloaded it today and started playing around with it, but I like what I see already. You can have mulitple windows open at the same time, each displaying a different account. This is a great option in my opinion. I generally have been using hootsuite.com to manage all my accounts, but until they develop a desktop client, I think I will work Twhirl into the mix. Some features of Twhirl include:

» Windows and MAC versions
» Connect to multiple Twitter accounts
» Notifications for new messages
» Shorten long URLs
» Cross-post your updates with sites like Facebook
» Post images to TwitPic
» Search Tweets using Twitter Search
» Automatically find tweets using your @username
» Record and share video using Seesmic
» English spell checking

A great new Twitter tool for growing your network

Twittermass.com is a fairly new Twitter tool for growing your network. It offers the following free features:

» Auto Follow
» Manual Follow
» Block Unwanted Users
» Track Keywords
» Track Followers
» Clone Followers (coming soon)
» Upload Keywords (coming soon)

I just came across this Twitter tool today, but I like what I’m seeing already. I setup some auto follow filters based on NHL hashtags (#canucks, #nhl, #hockey, and #playoffs) for my Vancouver Canucks fan blog – canucksblog.net, @canucksblog. Twittermass will locate any Tweets using those hashtags and auto follow those users. It’s a great way to grow your network and locate targeted users. Here’s what the Twittermass team has to say about their service:

“To put it bluntly, TwitterMass is a hyper networking tool for Twitter. It’s been called the “Twitter’s Swiss Army Knife” and the “Twitter Networking Tool on Cruise Control”. Our system aims to eliminate some of the mundane processes of growing your Twitter network by giving you a suite of tools to build meaningful relationships. In the end TwitterMass is a system that fully automates your Twitter outreach and exponentially grows your niche Twitter network.”

» Head over to Twittermass.com and start building your network

I’ve really been getting in to Twitter lately. I was on there for awhile but not much was going on. Then as soon as I started getting a bit of following, things started to get more interesting. Now it rivals Facebook for my favorite Social Media website. Anyhow, I’ve put together a list of Twitter tools I’ve come across recently. Some are really useful, some maybe not so much but they are entertaining. Please take a look.

Twitter Grader

This is my favorite one! It is brought to you by hubspot.com, the same company that offers the excellent Website Grader free service. Basically it ranks the effectiveness of your Twitter profile based on a number of variables like followers and post frequency. I’m the #2 Tweeter in North Vancouver! I need to catch up to the other dude in front of me so I can rule my hometown.
Find out your grade at twitter.grader.com

Twitter Search

This tool has been really useful lately since Twitter’s internal search has been done for what feels like forever.
search.twitter.com

TwitDir

This is a great little tool for looking up people and profiles on Twitter.
twitdir.com

Follow Cost

Follow cost is a funny little service that let’s you see the cost of following a person. For example, if you are considering following a new person, you can put in their username and it will tell you how many updates they average a day – aka – their follow cost. Not that useful but kind of entertaining.
Find out the cost of following me (@mlambert) at followcost.com

Current To Twitter

This is a handy little script that automatically tweets the songs you are playing on iTunes. I thought it was a pretty cool but some of my followers complained about too many updates. One note, I had to install it twice to get it to work.
Current To Twitter

TypeTweets

This is a beautifully layed out aggregator that shows you tweets with type keywords in them.
TypeTweets

Monitter

This is a great little tool that allows you to search for keywords in tweets.
monitter.com

TwiTip

This is an amazing blog focusing on Twitter tips and tools. Make sure you add it to your feeds.
twitip.com

Twist

Twist is a great little tool that lets you search and view stats on keywords that are being tweeted.
twist.flaptor.com

TweetStats

This is a great little tool for tracking your personal stats on Twitter. Some of the info that is returned includes: personal tweet timeline, your aggregate hourly tweets, your aggregate daily tweets, interface used for tweeting, and the top people who reply to you.
tweetstats.com

That’s it, I hope I’ve been able to show you some new tools for improving your experience on Twitter. Are there any I’ve missed? If so, please feel free to leave a link in the comments area.
