Swiss Inspired Minimal 404 Pages

The idea here was to create a series of swiss inspired 404 pages. I went with the traditional white, red and black color schemes that our common in that genre. The line Seite Nicht Gefunden is german for Page Not Found. There are 12 options in total, each is a fully layered in Photoshop CS4 format. Each 404 page is optimized for 1024×768 resolution, but they are easily editable for any size you’d like to use. The font used for all is Helvetica – if you’re on a PC, I guess you could also use Arial if you really had too. Check out the screenshot below. “Also known as International Style, the Swiss Style does not simply describe a style of graphic design made in Switzerland. It became famous through the art of very talented Swiss graphic designers, but it emerged in Russia, Germany and Netherlands in the 1920’s. This style in art, architecture and culture became an ‘international’ style after 1950’s and it was produced by artists all around the globe. Despite that, people still refer to it as the Swiss Style or the Swiss Legacy.

This progressive, radical movement in graphic design is not concerned with the graphic design in Switzerland, but rather with the new style that had been proposed, attacked and defended in the 1920s in Switzerland. Keen attention to detail, precision, craft skills, system of education and technical training, a high standard of printing as well as a clear refined and inventive lettering and typoraphy laid out a foundation for a new movement that has been exported worldwide in 1960s to become an international style.”

Die Neue Typographie WordPress Theme

Minimal layout fans rejoice! I stumbled onto this little jem lately and needed to share it. An amazing, minimal website template from hellyeahdude.com named Die Neue Typographie. Inspired from the Swiss Graphic Design style that I love so much and available as a free download! Officially my new favorite theme, make sure you grab it. Oh yeah, it also comes in a white version if you prefer.

Updated September 2, 2010 — the link to the demo page on hellyeahdude.com is broken. I tried to find the new link but it looks like it may have been removed from the website. Anyhow, I was able to locate a direct download link for the theme which is below.

Isn’t it great when you find a new website that just blows your mind? thegridsystem.org is one of those websites and it is also one my new favorites.

I’m a huge fan of using grids in your web and graphic design work. The Grid System provides you with all the information on using grids that you could ever want. There is articles on how to use grids and grid principles, grid tools, books on grids, templates, and a blog on grid related websites and links.

At this point, there are 6 free, downloadable grid templates you can grab. 4 for InDesign (print) and 2 for Photoshop (Web). That’s an awesome free giveaway! Also, don’t miss clicking on the “show grid” button at the top-right corner of the website. It will reveal the grid that the actual site is built on – it’s a cool little feature. Consider this one bookmarked.

The Cardeo Standard CSS website template is the second in a series of free templates that are based on my WordPress themes. I made a few changes to the layout to make it better suited for a static website, in comparison to a the WordPress theme. I’m going to call this version 1.1 of the layout due to the changes. Cardeo Standard is a minimal website template inspired from Swiss graphic design.
