I came across thegoldenblack.com today on facebook and needed to share it right away. The website is fairly new but boasts some amazing stock vectors, brushes and fonts. You know the quality will be excellent because a number of the sets are by Hydro74.

With the use of the new @font-face property in CSS 3, you can import additional fonts, outside of the regular system ones, for use in web design.

New Fonts Available When Using CSS 3

The ability to import fonts with CSS 3 opens up a new copyright can of worms. At this point, there is no broad sweeping decision or license for releasing the use of every possible font in your library. However, there is a list of legal fonts over at webfonts.info that you can reference.

At this point, there are about 25 new font options to pick from. YES! That is already way better than the number of system fonts we’ve been held to in the past. As time goes on, and CSS 3 becomes more common, this list is sure to grow. Check it out now and start using some of these new fonts in your web design projects.

Not every browser supports CSS 3 yet. However, now is a great time to start getting familiar with the new features. By the time all the browsers have caught up, you will be an expert and won’t have to worry about learning a bunch of new code. The techniques covered in the article are:

It’s also a great way to preview and test type styles for your web design projects. First, Paste in a sentence or a block of text in the left window. Next, using their WYSIWIG controls, choose your font face, font size, color, etc… Once you are happy with the results, it outputs the css code you need for your style sheet in the right window. Handy little tool for setting your type online.
